Harvard University, a University that is very well known not just in the states, but also around the country has recently gotten into some hot water.
A Harvard University Nano technology professor has been accused of lying to U.S. authorities and members of the U.S. government for their ties to China.
The program that Nanotechnology Proffesor Charles Lieber has been accused of being tied with is a program called the Thousand Talents Program.
A program that U.S. authorities say China uses to get foreign researchers to try and share confidential information about thor country in exchange “for certain perks”.
Prosecutors have also stated that Lieber became a strategic scientist at the Wuhan University of Technology in China.
As part of the program, the Wuhan University of Technology gave Lieber more than 1.5 Million dollars to establish a Chinese lab and they also agreed to pay him $50,000 per month plus $150,000 in annual living expenses alone.
In January of 2020, Prosecutors charged Lieber as part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s initiative known as “The China Initiative”, where the former Trump administration attempted to try and crack down and combat Chinese political and economic attempts at espionage as well as research theft.
The first trial of a Tennessee professor ended in a mistrial, and according to Reuters as well, Prosecutors have also dropped charges against 6 other researchers.
But, Lieber has not pleaded guilty to 6 false statements and tax charges.
His lawyer has also even stated that “Lieber didn’t get paid as the government alleges”.
Prosecutors are saying that Lieber lied to investigators, about his involvement in the Thousand Talents Program and Prosecutors are also saying that he misled Harvard as well, because in 2019, told the National Institutes of Health that he was not involved with it.
The whole point of this video in my opinion is to warn people and let parents know that they need to be very careful about where they send their children to College, or school in general.
Also, be very careful about who teaches your students.
This could be going on in the schools in which your students attend, and you could have absolutely no idea.
